sunbeam-gideonA team from St. James UMC in Athens, GA is in Estonia, helping the staff of Sunbeam run a camp for children with disabilities.

This is the first summer children from Sunbeam have been to Camp Gideon and the kids are loving it. Tomorrow some parents will also come to camp and even spend the night. It’s a joy to bless the children and their families.

On the schedule tomorrow: games on the beach, a campfire and s’mores.

I was with the team today and we talked about the fact that Love is far more important that ‘activities’. In God’s kingdom, the highest commandments are to love the Lord and love others, especially the ‘least of these’. Our activities must be prompted by our love for God and other people; Love comes first.

While most of the team spends time with the children, two team members are building new picnic tables for the Camp Gideon and Sunbeam — the tables are much needed (the old ones are rotting away) and will be used by MANY over the coming years.
