Belarus — Families, Cooking and Conferences

December 24, 2009

Dear friends,

As you continue pray and support the ministry in Belarus, we want to fill you in a bit.

The Minsk Family home really brings us a lot of joy.  The girls have lived there for about 3 months now.  So we can look at it as a trial period and can say, that it went well and we are ready to move on.

This month we had an official opening ceremony of Minsk Family Home. We invited people close to MFH, we prayed together for girls, we shared with them the goals, the plans and ideas about MFH.

zhdan_2Each girl has signed a contract to agree with all the rules and all the girls lit one candle as a symbol of family flame and unity. We had a nice dinner and shared stories after that.

The girls are also having great desire to minister to orphans, so this month we gave them an opportunity to go to the Zhdanovichi orphanage to visit pre-school orphans and give them diapers, as well as to Stankovo orphanage to have cooking classes.

zhdan_1Since there are more of us now, we can actually take several groups to cook at a time. It went really well, the orphans were happy and the girls want to do it again.

And also in December two of our girls: Alla and Tanya had their birthdays. Those were the first family holidays in MFH.

The girls invited their friends from colleges and had real birthday parties. We also wanted to do something special for them, so we took them out for a day trip celebration. We went to bowling (for some of them it was the first time, but by the end all of them were doing pretty well).  And after bowling we ate together in a cafe.

The girls were happy, we made their day and it was very special.  It’s also neat to see how they support each other and help each other.

Another thing we did was sharing a day with people from Zhitkovichi family orphanage.  In our church we had a family conference and we invited them to come. It was a wonderful time of learning God’s view on a family and time of sharing as well.

We see the importance of working with adults who are connected to orphans.

Irina, whom we known for years and who used to be the director of the orphange said: “It was the first time that I realized God wants to be present in our families. I prayed to him for children and other things, but never connected God and family”.

We are also busy with Christmas programs, packing gifts and visiting orphans now. As Christmas season in Belarus is from December 25 till January 7th, we will share about it in our next letter.

But here we have some prayer needs

1. Some of you have been praying for our accountant Masha, who got into a car accident.Thank you very much for your prayers. After one week in the hospital she came home and now is doing fine. Still need to pray for her car situation, that the court approves her not guilty.(she is not, but it doesn’t always works this way over here).

2. Please pray for Alona from MFH.  A week ago we found out that her birth mother has cancer and dying.  Alona is visiting her now.  She shared the prayer of Salvation with her mom.  Please keep her in your prayers as well as Alona’s studies.  She is not doing really well as it’s harder for her then for family kids.  I give her English lessons every week, so she did pass English test, but Math is coming.  Please pray, as the school threatens to kick out those students that get bad marks, especially orphans.

3. Please pray for all our Christmas projects, that all goes well, we have gifts for everyone and that we can touch the hearts of children.

Thank you very much for all your help, prayers, support and we also want to wish you “Merry Christmas” filled with joy and peace and “Happy New Year” filled with God’s blessings.

Sincerely,

Olga Goncharenko
